GKCIS hosted the AIS 2009 Spring Convention.
Conventions are a great opportunity for irisarians to meet, renew friendships and discuss everything iris.
Below are links to a variety of photo albums depicting the events of the AIS 2009 Spring Convention hosted by the Greater Kansas City Iris Society. The Garden albums offer an overview of the gardens visited before, during and after the convention while the hybridizer albums depict the iris varieties that bloomed in 2008 and/or 2009 organized by hybridizer so the viewer can see the scope of the hybridizers work. As local gardeners are aware the spring weather during 2007 - 2009 has been unusually cool and windy during iris bloom season.
The Historic Iris Preservation Society donated hundreds of vintage iris varieties for GKCIS to grow for the education and enjoyment of AIS members and the community. Permanent collections have been established at Powell Gardens and the Lanesfield Historic School Site and a link to an album depicting some of these varieties is below.
